As we’ve celebrated Pearson College’s 50th anniversary over the past year, one of the most rewarding parts has been reconnecting with alumni groups and sharing updates about life on campus. And, as always, one question comes up time and again: How is the college doing financially? which often equates to our scholarship and financial aid level.
It’s a great question—and we’re proud to say that Pearson continues to offer Canada’s most generous scholarship and financial aid program. Here’s what that looks like today:
- 50% of our students receive a full scholarship
- About 25% receive partial scholarships, most of which are quite significant
- The remaining 25% are full fee payers, a group we’ve had to introduce over the past seven or eight years as government grants and funding have declined
Adding full fee payers wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s helped us maintain financial stability without over-drawing from our endowment—a critical step to ensure we don’t “rob the future to pay for the present.”
Of course, like many organizations, we’re feeling the impact of inflation. Rising food and insurance costs, along with program needs, have added pressure. At the same time, we’ve made intentional investments in student well-being—including adding counselors, learning support, and other resources—because supporting students holistically is what Pearson is all about.
Our endowment, currently at about $57 million, is on track to cross the $60 million threshold as part of our strategic goal for 2030. Endowment gifts truly move the needle, and while we can’t always count on them the same way we do annual giving, they make a lasting impact. If you—or someone you know—are in a position to consider an endowment gift, we’d love to talk. Many of you have already contributed to funds like the John Wynne-Hughes Fund or the Larry Huddart Fund, and we’re deeply grateful. These gifts ensure that future generations of students can experience Pearson College.
But giving back isn’t always financial. We’re inspired by alumni who volunteer in their communities, serve on national committees, and live the UWC values every day. Every act of engagement strengthens the ripple effect of Pearson around the world.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we’re building a sustainable future for Pearson—and for the students who will carry its mission forward.
