Support Pearson College UWC with a Future Gift

A legacy, or planned, gift is a donation you plan now that supports Pearson College students in the future. Anyone can make a legacy gift. The amount doesn’t matter. Supporting a cause you cherish, leaving a legacy of values as well as funds, does matter. It is one of the most important things you can do to build the world you’d like to see.

The easiest legacy you can leave is a gift in your Will, but there are other options and they are described below.

If this type of gift interests you, please consult your income tax, financial, and/or legal advisors to determine what will work best for you, personally. Then get in touch with the College’s Advancement office to discuss how your gift can be used – see contact information on the left.

If you’ve included support for future Pearson students in your plans and feel comfortable sharing your intentions with us, we would be grateful if you would let us know. This notification is not binding in any way and will be kept in the strictest confidence. You are one of our students’ most committed and valued supporters and we would like the opportunity to express our appreciation and welcome you into the Lester B. Pearson Legacy Society.

A gift in your Will

Sample Bequest Language:
Here are some examples of wording your lawyer or notary might use in your Will for different types of bequests.

If you would like to give a specific dollar amount or property:

I give Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific and United World Colleges (Canada) Inc., located at 650 Pearson College Drive, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, the sum of (list DOLLAR AMOUNT, ASSET OR PROPERTY) for its sole use and purposes.

If you would like to give a percentage of the residue of your estate:

[The “residue” is what remains after you’ve taken care of all your loved ones with specific bequests and after all the estate bills are paid. If you make a residual bequest, you won’t feel obligated to keep a specific amount set aside for your future College gift. You will have the maximum amount of funds available to you for all your personal needs and any unforeseen expenses during your lifetime, and we will be grateful for any amount we eventually receive.]

I give Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific and United World Colleges (Canada) Inc., located at 650 Pearson College Drive, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, _____ percent of the residue of my estate for its sole use and purposes.

If you would like to direct your gift to a specific purpose:

I give Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific and United World Colleges (Canada) Inc., located at 650 Pearson College Drive, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, (list DOLLAR AMOUNT, ASSET OR PROPERTY or _____ percent residue of my estate). It is my preference that this gift be used for (NAME PROGRAM OR PROJECT OR ENDOWMENT FUND).

Retirement funds

Retirement funds – RRSPs, RRIFs and TFSAs – are one of the best ways to grow wealth during your lifetime but one of the worst ways to transfer wealth to the next generation is because they are taxed heavily. Donating your remaining RRSP or RRIF is a tax-effective way to transform these assets into a substantial gift to Pearson College UWC and reduce the tax burden on your beneficiaries.

Real estate and gifts in kind

A gift in kind is a non-cash donation to Pearson College UWC that can include personal effects, works of art and real estate. It’s a personal and meaningful way to give, and it provides your estate with a valuable tax receipt.

Endowments are intended to last in perpetuity. We can help you set up one in your name or the name of a friend or loved one.
