Embrace a Whole Education
At Pearson, we don’t just focus on academics; we believe in nurturing the whole student. Our approach to education pays equal respect to academics, service, leadership, physical pursuits, creative expression, vocational learning, and communal living. Here, students are encouraged to explore their passions, challenge themselves, and positively impact the world around them.
Community-centered Learning
As a Pearson College UWC community member, students have the unique opportunity to participate in collaborative learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Through hands-on projects, service initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities, students gain valuable skills, insights, and perspectives that prepare them for success in an ever-changing world.
Engage Through Work
At Pearson, we believe that a healthy, sustainable community is built on the foundation of meaningful work. That’s why every member of our community, from students to faculty and staff, plays a vital role in contributing to campus life. Students can develop new skills, forge connections, and cultivate a sense of responsibility through various work opportunities. Every task contributes to the vibrant tapestry of Pearson life, from house duties to student jobs.
Student Work Opportunities
Through their work, students play a vital role in every aspect of campus life:
House Duties
Every week, a changing group of students is on chore duty in each residential house. Students take out the trash, recycle, and compost, vacuum the stairs, hallways, and dayroom, and clean the laundry room and kitchen.
Kitchen Service
Three or four times per year for a week, students lend a hand in the campus kitchen, gaining valuable experience in food preparation and service.
Student Jobs
Each student has a designated job overseen by a supervisor for one hour of work a week (or the equivalent) over the course of a term, providing opportunities for skill development and personal growth. Jobs range from English tutoring to greenhouse maintenance. Below is a list of past student jobs.
- English Tutors
- Breadmakers
