It’s people like Carrie Moir and her family who have (in this case, quite literally!) shaped Pearson College into what it is today. This year we are celebrating 50 years of Pearson College and that also means celebrating 50 years of incredible people who have made our community extraordinary.
Carrie, a cherished member of our housekeeping team since 1995, has officially retired – closing a chapter that has connected her family to Pearson College for over 40 years. Her father, Leo, served as Pearson’s Maintenance Manager for 22 years beginning in 1977. Her mother, Jane, began in 1991, where she worked in Housekeeping and warmly hosted students for dinners. Carrie’s late husband, Bryan, beautified our grounds, planting the rhododendrons that flourish around the pool and dining hall to this day.
We invite you to honour Carrie’s legacy, or anyone else who made Pearson College meaningful to you, with a tribute gift. Join us in lifting up the people in this community who make Pearson College truly exceptional!
Estella Woo (Year 21/1996, Canada-NB) remembers Carrie’s family fondly:
“The Guigueno family of Leo, Jane and Carrie, has been part of the Pearson College experience for generations of students, faculty and staff. They all worked hard to not only keep and maintain “our beautiful home” on sacred land but they opened up their hearts and souls to us.
Leo, our “maintenance god” was a father figure and friend to many – guiding us to help keep the College grounds well-tended, teaching us about life through his stories and sharing his great knowledge on the wilderness and beyond.
Jane, known as many people’s “Pearson Mom”, was able to reach the students on a personal level with thoughtful conversations, caring actions and wondrous hugs. Besides keeping campus livable and clean, Jane offered easy friendship, nurture and love to all who sought it. Many a starving student delighted in Jane’s delicious meals and gourmet homemade chocolates and desserts.
Carrie rounded out this amazing family with her amazing smile, her warmth and her genuine caring nature.
We were so grateful for her hard work and her ability to make you feel seen and cared for, even if only with a passing smile or hug. She took the time to get to know us, like her parents, and that has been such a blessing for many.
Personally, Pearson College has been an incredibly important part of my life – and for the entire 30 years of it so far, there has always been a Guigueno for me to visit when returning to campus. It will be sad that this legacy has come to an end but the love and friendship lives on.
Thank you Carrie – and Jane and Leo! You have made a world of difference to us all!”
Together, Carrie and her family have truly left an indelible mark, not only on our campus, but on generations of students and employees.
Carrie’s retirement coincides with this milestone year. This 50th anniversary is the perfect occasion to honour Carrie and those who made your experience unforgettable. Please join Estella in making a tribute gift in Carrie’s honour, then share your memories, photos, and stories of those you honour on our Kudoboard.
