What we do

As one of 18 UWC (United World Colleges) schools, our mission is aligned with that of the UWC: “To make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.”

The College welcomes these students regardless of their socio-economic background, politics, religion, ethnicity, language or gender. Our education actively promotes intercultural understanding and the development of genuine concern for others, founded on shared life experiences and cooperative, residential living. The experiential education program is intense and rigorous, designed to support students to become emerging leaders who understand that change is possible through skilled dialogue, courageous action and a determination to make situations better — whether local, national or international in scope.

With this intentionally diverse population of students, the College builds a purposeful and highly experiential program. Much of what we do focuses on getting to know and understand each other. This begins with each student sharing a room with three others—four students who likely come from four different countries, with four different first languages, four different religious backgrounds, four different food cultures and four different musical genre preferences. Through this challenging living model, they learn one of the College’s most important lessons: tolerance.

As Lester B. Pearson himself once said, “How can there be peace without people understanding each other; and how can this be if they don’t know each other?”

Choosing a career at Pearson College, all employees are contributing to our experiential program, while supporting our students in their chosen endeavours in many different ways.
