How Sustainers Change Lives at Pearson College UWC

At Pearson College, those who provide recurring support, be it monthly, quarterly, or annually, are members of the Sustainer’s Society. This group creates a foundation our students can rely on. Together, the Sustainer’s Society currently fund 8 full scholarships every year. That steady commitment means we can plan responsibly, welcome students with confidence, and say “yes” to young people who might never otherwise imagine studying here. But beyond budgets and planning, your support means:

  • A home away from home.
  • A first time on stage.
  • A young leader returning home with new skills and new hope.

Ashraful (Bangladesh), Year 52

Ashraful hopes to study Computer Science and apply artificial intelligence to improve access to education and healthcare. He’s earning top marks and is known for his diligence and thoughtful questions. When asked what he’s most proud of, he shared this:

“Bangladeshi dance at MESACANA Regional Day 2026. It was my first time ever performing on a stage, so I was very nervous at first. At the same time, I felt proud because I was representing my country, Bangladesh, in front of the whole Pearson community.
That moment meant a lot to me. I was sharing a part of my culture and where I come from. It made me realize how much more confident I have become since coming to Pearson, and how this place gives me the space to express my identity freely.”

Through Girls on the Move, an organization that helps raise funds and awareness for women’s rights to education all over the world, and his planned volunteer service with the JAAGO Foundation in Bangladesh, he hopes to give back:

“I hope to understand how volunteering and teaching can make a real difference in shaping their future.”

Beemnet (Ethiopia), Year 52

Diligent, attentive, and intellectually curious, Beemnet is thriving in the IB while living with roommates from China, India, and Nova Scotia, calling it “a home away from home.”

She plans to pursue computer engineering and build opportunities in Ethiopia.

“I am so interested in STEM field and its intersection with humanity. I specifically want to work in a computer engineering field that will allow me to use my interest in the technology field to address real world problems. For my Extended Home Service plan, I’m going to create an online program. I’m going to call it Unlocking Children’s Talent which basically aims to provide the tools and skills for young Ethiopians, to help identify their interest and passions.”

She hopes to create a ripple effect of opportunity in her community.

Martina (Kenya), Year 51

Martina is earning “A” grades across her IB program, including Higher Level Biology and Economics. She hopes to become a professor in a nursing institution and contribute to healthcare research across Africa.

For her Extended Home Service, she led a sustainability initiative in Kenya focused on community.

“I led a project at a local school back home where we taught the students sustainable practices and ways of caring for their surrounding through planting of trees and cleaning of the local markets. This experience helped to remind me that charity begins at home, and I am determined to continue this project across other schools in my city.”

And about her time at Pearson: “It is an opportunity that brings light to one’s eye. I now have hope of a better future for my country after being exposed to Pearson College.”

Joining the Sustainer’s Society means you get to be part of all these stories too.
