Each summer, PSYL seeks to hire a team of passionate educators that embodies different identities, styles of leadership, and life experiences to bring together diversity in the fields of youth leadership education, social and environmental justice, and community change-making. We invite applications from individuals who are passionate about intercultural learning, transformative pedagogy and stepping outside of their own comfort zones.
Curriculum Coordinators are asked to commit to the full program, including a training week prior to animator arrival and a debriefing week following program’s end. The dates for 2021 will be confirmed shortly.
The Curriculum Coordinators and the Program Director work as a core team to develop and implement the three week Pearson Seminar on Youth Leadership. The position begins with 2 days of planning in the spring (dates TBD), where we will build upon core curriculum and add the offerings of new team members and guest speakers. In late June, we meet on campus with a week of program planning and preparation. A team of 16 youth volunteers (“Animators”) join us for a second week of preparation, where we provide them with peer-facilitation training and they assist us in designing and delivering activities in the program. The seminar in 2020 begins on 12 July and concludes on 1 August. The core team continues for 4 days of debriefing, evaluations, celebration, and wrap-up. The seminar is an intense community experience with long days; it is highly demanding and phenomenally rewarding!
These positions are usually advertised in the fall have a rolling deadline until we find the right team.
Thank you for the enthusiastic interest in this position in 2020. Applications for 2021 will open in the fall.
The Animator team is comprised of students from the international UWC network, as well as past PSYL participants. The Animators have integrated and participatory roles within PSYL. We place high expectations on the animators to model inclusive community and to positively encourage participant learning. We also support Animators’ learning to grow their own skills and to step into new positions of leadership. While PSYL cannot provide travel funds for Animators, they will incur no expenses once they arrive on our campus: we provide full accommodation, all meals and program materials. As well, Animators are asked to commit to the full program, including a training week prior to participant arrival. The dates for animators in 2021 will be published shortly.
Applications for 2020 are now closed. More details about the program in 2021 will be announced in the fall.
