The Board of Directors of Pearson College UWC wishes to advise that Désirée McGraw, President and Head of College, has resigned for personal reasons effective December 31, 2019. The Board has accepted her resignation and thanks Désirée for her leadership and her many contributions to our community.

As previously announced, a search for a new President and Head is underway with executive search firm Perrett Laver. During this transition period, the College is in capable hands with a strong leadership team, faculty and staff.

We are pleased to advise that Vice-President of Operations and Administration Ty Pile has agreed to serve as Interim President and Head of College. Ty has been a core member of the College’s leadership team since 2016. Since joining the College, Ty has made a strong contribution to improving the safety, operations, and well-being of our campus community.

Ty came to Pearson after a distinguished career in Canada’s Navy, attaining the rank of Rear Admiral in 2005. He has worked in joint operations with NATO and the UN around the world. Among his responsibilities during his military career was accountability for all general service training and education programs for the Canadian Forces, including two universities. In 2007, he was appointed concurrently as Commander Canada’s Pacific Navy, Commander Joint Task Force Pacific and Commander Joint Task Force Games to lead the Canadian Forces’ contribution to security and public safety for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Ty is a recipient of the Order of Military Merit and the Meritorious Service Cross.

Ty identifies as Métis and resides near Pearson College UWC in Metchosin with his wife, Debra.  They have two adult children, Byron and Hayley.

Over the coming weeks, Désirée and Ty will work together to ensure a smooth leadership transition. We welcome Ty to his new responsibilities.

Warm regards,

Anne McLellan
