“I learned I really can stretch my boundaries.”
When I was 16 I truly wanted to experience life at a higher level, more challenging, more interesting, more rewarding. I wanted to see the world, meet people, improve my English - and I knew my personality, my behavior and my talents were being baked in the oven at the greatest heat they had ever been. I was hungry for new experiences. For a new me.
It was then that I found about the UWC. One year later I was studying. living and breathing Pearson College of the Pacific - a place that gave me probably the most difficult experiences in my life, but also the most rewarding.
I remember so many things – my first ventures into leadership conducting a village meeting, how I was encouraged to voice my criticism and even evaluate my teachers, being in charge of composting (something we didn’t do at home), illustrating my first book in art class, learning “weird” dances, laughing. But most of all I remember the people.
I think whoever experiences Pearson carries a warm place in his or her heart. It is a place that cannot be forgotten - ever. It was my years of blossoming; where I learned I really can stretch my boundaries. That I can do anything.
Because of teachers who often came to Pearson to follow their hearts, because of loving staff and their spouses, because of like-minded young spirits I simply had the time of my life – and I owe it all to them, and to myself.
Today, six years later, I find I am more accepting of people with differing views. I have learned that truth is what people hold, even if it is on opposite side of an issue. I am in University. I hope to become a teacher and an author and do my bit to empower others. These convictions I took from my time at Pearson.
