Pearson opened my mind to look at options instead of following a “set plan”
I had a number of vivid impressions in my first weeks at Pearson. First, the raw beauty of the location - having grown up in an urban city, the physical features of the Canadian West Coast were truly stunning! Second, the scale of diversity and openness amongst the other students, the faculty and the administration was fascinating. Finally, as one understood the broader curriculum (academics and extra curricular), I had a strong feeling of appreciation to be selected to participate in this terrific experience.
At the college I was able to take part in project weeks with the Canadian Coast Guard, ski with close friends, sail around the San Juan Islands, practice Ukranian dancing (I felt so uncoordinated initially!) practice search and rescue techniques around Pedder and Sooke Bay, play hockey at the juvenile center and swim with the physically challenged.
The biggest contribution Pearson made to my future was to open my mind and look at options instead of following a "set plan" as one was used to while growing up. The Pearson experience prompted me to pursue a liberal arts major and then opened up a variety of opportunities in my professional life. I studied Economics and Engineering at Dartmouth and got an MBA at Harvard.
I currently reside in Bombay, India, with my wife and son. I am a Senior Managing Director of Temasek Holdings. Established in 1974, Temasek makes, holds and manages investments in companies which are involved in a wide range of business activities, from port, shipping and logistics, to banking and financial services, airlines, telecom and media, power and utilities, and rail.
I am involved in a number of community organizations such as the YPO (Young President Organization), YGL (Young Global Leaders), WEF (World Economic Forum) etc. and I personally support St. Jude's Childcare Centre, which helps under-privileged children recover from chronic diseases such as cancer. I was also involved with the selection committee of the UWC in India.
