Pearson College UWC is a unique and vital Canadian educational institution. Our mission is to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

A group of visionaries founded the College in 1974. Their goal: to create a national memorial to Nobel Prize winner and former Prime Minister of Canada, Lester B. Pearson, in the form of a school that would bring together young people of great leadership potential from every corner of the world. Forty years on, Pearson College continues to produce alumni who use intercultural understanding and a genuine concern for others to make a difference in the world.

Located in a beautiful wilderness setting near Victoria on Vancouver Island, Pearson College is one of 14 prestigious United World Colleges located around the world. The College provides a two-year International Baccalaureate education to 160 16- to 19-year-old youth from up to 100 countries. Students are selected on merit, based on their personality, promise and potential to thrive at the College. We award each student a scholarship based on financial need, with scholarships entirely funded through donations.

The College welcomes these students regardless of their socio-economic background, politics, religion, ethnicity, language or gender. Our education actively promotes intercultural understanding and the development of genuine concern for others, founded on shared life experiences and cooperative residential living. The program is intense and rigorous, designed to evolve students into emerging leaders who understand that change is possible through skilled dialogue, courageous action and a determination to make situations better—whether local, national or international in scope.

With this intentionally diverse population of students, the College builds a purposeful and highly experiential program. Much of what we do focuses on getting to know and understand each other. This begins with each student sharing a room with three others—four students who likely come from four different countries, with four different first languages, four different religious backgrounds, four different food cultures and four different musical genre preferences. Through this challenging living model, they learn one of the College’s most important lessons: tolerance.

As Lester B. Pearson himself once said, “How can there be peace without people understanding each other; and how can this be if they don’t know each other?”

We offer all employees a competitive compensation and benefits package, including opportunities for professional development. Pearson College welcomes qualified applications from individuals with a diverse array of backgrounds. For inquiries regarding employment at the College, please contact our Human Resources department by email. Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.
