The International Baccalaureate Program

Pearson College was one of the first schools in North America to offer the International Baccalaureate—the most recognized and respected high-school diploma in the world. We still develop innovative international curriculum for it, such as the IB Marine Science course.

While the rigorous IB program challenges our students academically, the Pearson IB is about much more than scholastic excellence. It includes following a carefully designed program that helps students to develop their critical thinking and conflict resolution skills, and introduces them to models of leadership based on trust, integrity and responsibility. It also radicalizes the teaching process, turning our educators into highly collaborative coaches and mentors.

At the end of their second year, students write exams, which are marked by external IB examiners. Pearson students have excelled in these exams, with 60% of our students since 1974 receiving over 35 points (out of a possible 45). Only 20% to 30% of students worldwide claim this same achievement.

Twice each year, teachers report on students’ progress in academics, activities and residential life to parents, selection committees and students. In early August, the International Baccalaureate Office issues a Diploma to successful students.
