Volunteering
Volunteers play an essential role in the life of the community through nourishing the culture and resources of Pearson College. There are many ways to volunteer—we hope you find a capacity that fits your needs, challenges and strengths.
Friends of Pearson Students (formerly Friends of Pearson College) was formed in 1996 and has provided many unique social events, gift packages and services for the 200 international students who attend the College each year. In addition to the opportunities mentioned below, there are also special occasions and small projects which can always do with helping hands from volunteers.

HOST FAMILIES
Our host families are one of the most important aspects of the community at Pearson College. Whenever convenient for you and your student, you will take him/her to your house for a night or weekend. The students love to get a break from the campus, a good home-cooked meal and a nice shower. You, in return, usually end up ‘adopting’ a family member. These students are far away from their family and need a home away from home.
The students develop close relationships with their host families and describe their time with them as one of the most rewarding experiences of their two-year stay at Pearson College. The experience is equally cherished by the over 90 Host Families involved in the program.
To become involved in the Host Family Program please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (250) 391-2411 or volunteer@pearsoncollege.ca.

DINNER ESCAPE
If you cannot commit to becoming a host family you can become a Dinner escape family. Dinner hosts pick up a student or two and give them a home cooked meal. This is a great way to volunteer without a huge commitment. And Dinner Escape participants are just as appreciated by the students as the host families. Once again, they are happy to get away from the campus, even if just for a few hours.
AIRPORT GREETING
Students arrive in September at all different times of the day. We make sure that there is a volunteer at the airport to greet arriving students, help them with their luggage, provide information about the campus van which will take them to the College, and welcome the students to British Columbia and, in most cases, to Canada.
WELCOME PACKAGES
Each September the Friends of Pearson Students canvass the community for donated goods or promotional material for our packages. These packages are then distributed to the students as a warm welcome.
